A Southern Belle with a Worldly Soul

Welcome to Butter for Dinner, the evolution of a simple yet sophisticated and adventurous kitchen.

I am a Southern Belle from Atlanta, Georgia. Raised in the heart of the South, I learned early on that the kitchen is where our most important stories unfold. My culinary foundation is deeply rooted in the heritage of slow-simmered comfort: pots of smoky collard greens, rendering bacon, and the rich aroma of hot, buttered cornbread.

But as my kitchen grew up, my palate traveled. I quickly realized that true comfort food knows no borders.

Global Flavors, Southern Roots

I chose long ago not to confine my cooking to a single box. When you look at the landscape of global cuisine, the structural DNA of the Black American South beautifully mirrors the great culinary traditions of the world:

  • The Art of the Braise: The slow-simmering of a French ragoût is a direct cousin to a rich Italian oxtail ragù.

  • Smoky Undertones: Southern pit-cooking shares a soul with the aromatic tomato-and-chile bases of West African stews and Mexican pozole.

  • Deep Umami: The savory depth of traditional Southern broths finds harmony with the complex layers of Japanese miso and Korean kimchi.

At my table, there is total freedom. I love honoring my deep Southern roots on a Monday, executing a flawless, flaky French pastry on a Tuesday, and blending Korean gochujang into a classic Southern fried chicken glaze by the weekend.
